How long have you been a DJ for?
30+ years dealing with crowds from 25 to 5000
Is this your full time business/Do you mainly do weddings?
Weddings are my speciality and I DJ currently full time
What is your favourite part of being a DJ?
Every wedding is different, has different music tastes and the challenge is always trying to read people from a distance to predict what they will dance / sing to.
Do you have any traditions or routine that you do on a Wedding Day that you would like to share? ie like a football player puts his socks on the same way before a game
Very methodical, I load my car up the night before in a certain way that ensures I have everything and don’t leave anything important behind. First thing in the morning I double check the runsheet for the days timing to ensure I am at the venue about 2 hours ahead of time.
In the event of you being sick or unable to perform on the day, do you have a back up?
Yes I do, I am a member of the DJAA and we have a substantial network of quality DJs that can help out if required.
Do you have to have Insurance to be a DJ?
Absolutely, most quality venues will ask to see that the DJ have a public liability insurance policy. I personally have a $20 million policy and if your entertainment provider cannot produce one then you are putting yourself at risk of liability.
How do you help your Bride and Groom with their play list?
Aside from having a couple of face to face, video chat and / or phone calls I provide an online planner that enables my clients to listen to and select songs from the comfort of their own lounge.
What are your favourite songs to get the crowd pumping?
I have been doing this for 30 years so pick one out of the thousands is hard as every night is different but there are a number of classic’s that never fail.
Are guests able to make song requests?
I provide a very personal service and I certainly encourage the bride and groom to have a major say in the atmosphere of the night, this is extended out to their guests on the day as well.
If someone books your business are they booking you?
As a sole trader I run my own business and when you book me I am the one who works alongside you in both the lead up to and on the night.
How many times do you meet with your Bride and Groom before the big day? Do they get to see a final run of the playlist before the day?
100% correct. I send a finalised music list as well as the evenings run sheet from the online planner 2 weeks ahead of time. If any changes need to be done it is done well ahead of time.
Why should someone pick you as their DJ?
With 30+ years experience as a DJ whose specialty is weddings, major birthdays and corporate events and 100+ 5 star ratings on my FB DJ-Corey page (https://www.facebook.com/djcorey.com.au/) I am a passionate DJ who has had experience working with crowds from 25 to 5000. I offer Face-to-Face or Video chat consultations prior to the wedding
With an extensive music catalogue coupled with music knowledge (which enables me to tailor the music to the audience) I am a wedding professional who is reliable, can provide ease of mind .
I do not smoke nor drink alcohol while working (so I am 100% focused on you and your guests) as well as being an accredited member and committee member of the DJAA (DJ Alliance Australasia).
Having attended a large number of Weddings to date, what is your advice for Brides and Grooms when they are trying to choose their DJ?
Make sure you can meet with them. We play a major part in the success of your day so you need to feel comfortable with all of your vendors.
My role as DJ and MC is to remove all the anxiety and stress from my clients in relation to the music and the formalities of the reception.
You need to choose a professional and not risk the atmosphere of the entire afternoon / evening on someone just because they are budget friendly.
